Hi folks !
I was thinking about writing some documentation about email (and maybe more) encryption using GnuPG. The target would be not-so-techy tilde users. And the objective would be that anybody can use public key encryption if they want to with minimal hassle.
I would like to know what people use for handling email, as I've been using mutt for so long I don't really know what other folks do.
Please answer to this post (I'll publish it also on bbj and maybe tilde.news) with your combo of OS/email agent or simply with a "not interested".
That way I'll have an idea of what config examples to include on the docs or that perhaps there's no interest at all in this and I can use my time on other stuff ...
That's it, please take a couple of minutes to answer this ;-)
Have a nice day !

More documentation is always good; thanks!

Depending on what device I'm on, I use a couple different clients. - aquamail on android - webmail sometimes - mutt sometimes - thunderbird with enigmail if I need to do gpg mail

I use Thunderbird for most mail (It collects, routes, filters, and does magick). For that, I use enigmail for gpg.
On the cli, either alpine or mutt, but leaning towards mutt lately, as it has better configurability.
On my phone, it's Samsung Email. Ignore that, it's key support is horrible, but really is just a notifier.

I like mutt. If there could be modern documentation on its usage, I'd like that.

Sounds like me, nice.

Thunderbird at home, mutt on some servers but it's pretty much the default setup.
This is the first time that I have replied to a message on a mailing list, so please bear with me.
Personally, I use webmail to read emails. I'm using the tilde.team webmail site because I'm away from the computer that has my public key. I never really got in the habit of using a desktop email client. I used it in college, but that was already installed when I got my computer. Maybe I'll give Thunderbird a try.

I use Thunderbird on desktop/laptop Linux machines and K9 mail on my Android phone. Occasionally I'll use webmail (Roundcube). I've never set up PGP but I feel like I should. I'd be interested in reading g your guide.
Cheers

It's always good to have some docs like that for not-so-techy tildes ^^

Thunderbird on ArchLinux. I use Enigmail for GPG encryption and signature. I also tend to send my messages in plain text.
Have a nice day !

Thank you very much for this offering. I have a free certificate signed by sectigo, and I-m unable to use it with mutt. So this documentation would be more than welcome! o/

I want to move everything to mutt, so this is more than welcome. Mutt is my vote, yes.

I used [1] but for some reason mutt raises an error at the time of signing. So any improvements is more to doc is more than welcome
Have a nice day !
You too, Paco

Well, my documentation would be gpg centered, so I think it won't be so useful for S/MIME configurations ...
Anyway, thanks for your answer !

As far as I can sign my email with a non selfsigned certificate, this doc is more than welcome. And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't gpg provide s/mime support?
Thanks again :)
Thank you all for your answers !
For now, Thunderbird and mutt seem to be the most popular choices, so I may go with those when (and if) I start with this documentation.
It may take a while, since work and other obligations keep me quite busy lately. So, in the meantime, if anybody needs support regarding this, do not hesitate to send it here to the mailing list or even directly to me (email, irc or whatever).
I'm not a world class expert on thid, but a long (really long) time user, so there's that.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
i use mmh, a port of nmh, a port of mh, because ksh is a better UI than most terminal tools.
it also works on my hardcopy terminal, which is fun (though hopelessly impractical)
