Hello club!
Over the last year I've been putting a lot of thought into the things I'm paying for in my life, and where my money goes. I've been making an effort to cancel subscriptions for things that aren't truly benefiting me, and put that money instead towards communities, causes, projects, and people that I care about and want to thoughtfully support.
Towards that end, I decided to give a few dollars each month towards tilde.club. I am grateful to have discovered the community here.
It's just a drop in the bucket of the expenses that deepend (and other admins?) face to keep the lights on. So I just wanted to throw this note out in case anyone else has been thinking about some of the same issues I have, and just needed a little push to say "this is worth a few bucks a month to me". :)
I totally understand that not everyone can do that, and I intend no judgment on anyone! I also see the list of supporters who have made donations already. Y'all are awesome. I just don't want to take this place for granted.
To deepend and everyone else who has put in money or labor to support this community, thank you! This place rocks. I hope it will be around for a long time to come.
lafe
p.s. no one put me up to this, it was entirely motivated from my own thoughts ;)
Hi lafe,
Appreciate the support and appreciate all that have helped keep the lights on while I've been running tilde.club. As much as I don't expect money from people for this I do appreciate it and it makes running this service much easier to handle.
Thanks again, Look forward to many more years to come :)
Hi deepend,
I guess we all have an interest in keeping tilde.club running and I am sure many people -- myself included -- would be happy to spare a few bucks a month if there is a need. So I find myself wondering: Is there a need? And what is the current financial situation regarding tilde.club hosting expenses anyhow?
On https://donate.tilde.club/ I can see that the expenses seem to amount to $ 2,550 / year. However, I did not find any information about how much money you have left. Did you publish that information somewhere else? Or otherwise, would you be willing to put it up on https://donate.tilde.club/ as well? I suppose that you might want to make sure that the amount of individual donations remains hidden, but maybe you could publish an aggregate that you update once a year? (Or even just once every other year.) E.g. "As of 2025-12-31, we have $ NNNN left in our account, which means that we should be good to go for another NN months."
Best
Frank

Is there some risk of tilde.club going away due to lack of funding?
