I used to know this technology by the name of "usenet". It's not exactly the same, but maybe you've heard of it refered by that name as well. Or "newsgroups", "news".
It's a technology that predates the web, and lets people send "messages" to different "groups".

Come take a look. Check the existing groups, you'll see there's a backlog of messages from the last years :)
