Oh, almost forget about emacs gnus, I guess it will run ok on a low spec or old machine, I first used news/nntp there and then I added my mail but I was using it on my phone so a pain in the ass even using AnySoftKeyboard but on a PC over ssh or running locally is good with or without GUI as the CLI is as good as it can be you should try it

This is definitely not a Thunderbird version I could install on the 11 years old setup I use. But anyway, I used to use an all-in-one Internet suite (that is, web+mail+feed+news+chat+bittorrent) in such way back in Opera Classic days (Opera 12.x and below).

My favorite list archive viewer would be Public Inbox https://public-inbox.org/, but I'm okay with the old-school MHonArc https://www.mhonarc.org/ as well.
Man, a while ago I had only a arch without xorg o wayland just CLI so no JS, no nothing on a browser just a text based web browser named w3m and of couse byobu as alternative for i3 with just CLI, macs and MUTT. From this I found out about Gopher, Usenet, Bulletin Board, IRC, XMPP/Jabber, SIP/Pubx. Even using some of this on my phone and yes Fennec with NoScript, uBlock and Privacy Badger from EFF
