Dear ~club:
You are cordially invited to a tilde.club IRC party. The party will take place in #club and run tomorrow, Saturday 28 December 2019, through the evening on America's east coast (approx. 1700--0100 EST, 2200--0600 UTC). All are encouraged to bring their typing fingers, some topics of conversation, and a covered dish.
The purpose of this event is to increase synchronous, real-time traffic between ~clubbers on IRC. Currently, not enough people are on at the same time to make IRC much fun, but if we collect ourselves at appointed times, then we can maybe fix that.
If this goes well, then maybe we can make it a weekly event. I'm open to different dates and times for this sort of thing to accommodate different schedules and time zones. Feel free to propose them in this thread.
I hope to see you all there. No RSVP required, but comments on this idea (positive or negative) are encouraged.
Bradley

I'll be on (I stay connected all the time anyways :P)!
You should be able to run "chat" from your shell to open weechat and connect to our network. You can reach our network on localhost port 6667 from tilde.club itself or by connecting to irc.tilde.chat on port 6697 with ssl externally.

Just to update you if you couldn't make it, the IRC party on Saturday night was a success. In total, I counted at least 14 attendees, many of whom stayed for some time and discussed various important topics such as:
- the weather - ways to play with and break BitBot - organization and lack thereof - whether or not the party was occurring - other nonsense that I can't recall
I propose that we make this a weekly event. Thoughts?
Assuming no vocal opposition, I encourage you to attend this coming Saturday night EST, 04 January.
Happy New Year,
Bradley

I like the idea of a regular party. But I think events like this will lose their novelty if we have them weekly; less and less people will attend is my thought. What if we made them fortnightly or monthly?

A good point. I hadn't considered it, but actually I tend to think fortnightly might be a better idea. Let's put it to a vote: strawpoll.me/19162544/ Do speak up if your idea isn't represented as an option in the poll.
I suppose it would be better to start with a less frequent schedule and increase the frequency if we want to.

Let's review the results of the poll.
+-------------+-------+----------+ | Option | Votes | Fraction | +-------------+-------+----------+ | Weekly | 9 | 56% | | Fortnightly | 5 | 31% | | Monthly | 2 | 13% | +-------------+-------+----------+ | Total | 16 | 100% | +-------------+-------+----------+
By my arithmetic, the weighted average period between parties for this poll is 2.49 weeks. Unfortunately, this means that whether we hold our parties fortnightly or every third week, we'll be a little off the optimal period.
In the interest of simplicity, I think we should go with fortnightly parties. (This is, after all, technically the best option given the constraint of whole numbers of weeks.)
Therefore, tomorrow's party is postponed until next Saturday, 11 January, and parties will be held every other week after that, unless we decide otherwise.
I'm happy to take further suggestions and ideas.
