What’s some media you’ve been enjoying lately? Don’t worry if it’s mainstream or lowbrow or a guilty pleasure. Anything’s fine. What are you enjoying?
There's a YouTube ~~scene~~ of stuff-restoration videos: mostly unnarrated, just hands-on-tools, with the repetitive parts sped up. Of the many practitioners, I get the biggest kick out of a Swiss (?) guy who posts as "my mechanics". His videos are less "restorations", more "reconstructions of the Platonic ideal of a thing, using its own parts as base materials." Some favorites:
"Rusty Old Coffee Grinder" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFbHfB2AnVQ "Antique Hand Plane" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgZ41Rg1whs "Antique Rusty Micrometer" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nltNxh4PaZY
