Hi everyone, I’m Joel Dueck (~joeld http://tilde.club/~joeld/). I recognize quite a few of you and have eaten with some of you, and some of you I met because of Tilde Club. It was only by luck (and being extremely online) that I ever got an account.
- I used to try to maintain a page of Tilde Lore http://tilde.club/~joeld/tildelore.html, I appreciate any lore tips anyone wants to send me - One of the things I used my tilde account for was messing around with Pollen https://docs.racket-lang.org/pollen/ back when it was new - As part of that I published a thing called The Unbearable Lightness of Web Pages https://thelocalyarn.com/excursus/secretary/posts/web-books.html, about making websites that are also books. (It got enough attention that I got nervous and moved it to a more permanent home on a domain I own.) - I’m still working on parts of that project, but it’s been slow because - I have two small kids, ages 4 and 6, and a full time job, - where I get paid to write and maintain programs in *BASIC* of all things, which I do not at all enjoy but the position is stable and the pay is good for someone with my education and credentials (none and none) - and when I have a little time I’m usually hacking in LISP (Racket) - I built my own house, it took 4 years of evenings and weekends - I just remembered I somehow first found Paul Ford’s blog while using the workstations at the public library sometime around 1998 and have kind of had him bookmarked ever since, and all his stuff has been a thread of interestingness and humanity the whole time - When I first saw all these unread emails my gut reaction was *ugh*, but as I read them, I started to feel like I did during the hopeful turn at the end of *Arrival. *Maybe things can get better.
Much Love
