Once more unto the breach, thanks to the author of
these docs I found on Twitter. (Tilde is still the only reason I've ever had to use ssh – or Terminal, really.)
Upon entry, I was greeted – as you may have been – by an affirmation: "There is NO GUILT here. NOR SHAME. Not knowing things is fine. Not finishing them is fine too. Be a disaster! Make a disaster!" Ah! With that in mind, I should also mention that I was greeted just before that by a warning: I had p e r m a n e n t l y added something tilde-related to a list of known hosts. Disaster strikes! Maybe? I don't know! Beep boop.
