You can now search the FCC license database via the command line.
Command: fccdb <callsign>
Example:
$ fccdb nb0x
NB0X Wishek, Matthew 792 Ellen Ln El Cajon, CA 920192618
Very nice indeed! Thank you.
Only a week ago or so, I was thinking about how to query callsign information (e.g. via qrz.com) from the terminal. If I would sign up for a XML subscription, it would be worth to write my own. But first I wanted to have a look on what others did come up with.
I haven't done any thorough research yet but found some very interesting tools:
1) hrt (by Bryce Johnston) An application for the terminal that prints callsign information neatly in form of a table (via qrz or HamQT).
It's on github: https://github.com/beaorn/hrt
2) And there is a perl module on meta-cpan Ham-Reference-QRZ-0.04 (by Brad McConahay) that looks realy great - but needs the mentioned XML subscription on qrz.com.
I haven't yet have the time to try either of it (maybe you could take a look at them).
Maybe it would even be worth to open a new thread on what terminal applications for ham radio members are using. I for one would love to hear about that from you all!
